9/25:

Another pulling season is officially in the books.  And the 2009 pulling season is just around the corner.  I know is sounds kind of crazy talking about the 2009 season already, but we have our rules change meeting this winter.  The rules change meeting will be held in Centertown, MO on January 10th, 2009 at 4:00pm.

Something we are trying new for this year - is a committee of chairpersons for each division and rules section in order to make things at the rules change meeting operate smoothly.  If you have a concern or a change you would like made, please contact the individual below that pertains to your concern as soon as possible.  If the chairperson for that sections deems it necessary to call a special meeting of that particular area, then they can meet and discuss in length the changes that need to be made - agree on a decision - and present it to the club in a motion at the January Meeting.  Please use e-mail if possible first, and then try their cell phones.

Division 2 – Frank Young (660) 621-1204, frank--young@sbcglobal.net
Division 3 – Wade Monckton (660) 728-3578, wmonckto@yahoo.com
Division 5 – Bryan Monckton (660) 537-3765
Division 5 Turbo – Russ Hill (573) 680-2708, hvag@iland.net - Charles Friedrich (660) 537-1060
Division 7 – John Dye (660) 641-5218, dyestrip@ctcis.net
Heavy Farm – Steve Timm (660) 621-1212
General Rules – Steve Vandrimmelen (573) 999-2135, deerepuller@centurytel.net
Points Rules – Steve Borts (573) 808-0010, steve@spielersinc.com
Don't forget - the October meeting will be held October 4th at 7:00pm at Bryan Monckton's in Fayette.  Directions are located in the off season meeting section of the Website.  Happy hour begins at 5:00, eat at 6:00, and meeting at 7:00pm.  (Anyone who wishes to bring a TV or Radio to keep an eye on the Mizzou/Nebraska Game - it would be much appreciated)
The November meeting will be held on November 8th, at John Dye's shop in Higginsville.  The Banquet will be on February 7th - Location to be announced later.  I will be hosting the March meeting in Jamestown on March 7th.  I still need volunteers for the December 6th meeting, and the April 11th meetings.  Let me know if you would be interested.  Don't forget, the club voted last winter to pay the host $75.00 for expenses in hosting the meetings.
Finally, congratulations to all the points winners for the 2008 season.  I know things didn't turn out how we expected them to, but - its what we were dealt, and that how we had to deal with it.  You know how it goes, next year will probably be a dry year, and we will be begging for a rain.
I'm looking forward to 2009!!!

9/17:

Another Season of pulling is almost over.  Eldon is this Saturday.  That will be our final pull of the season.  It's hard to believe, but the weather looks good!

I hope everyone of our members made it through the torrential rains of last weekend.  I know several of you lost many of your crops in the bottoms from what I've been hearing.  We had some flooding that was worse than what we had in 1993.  The fire department in Jamestown made two different water rescues in the last couple of weeks due to the rain.  It was just amazing to see the force of the water - and what it can damage.  Here is a section of HWY D in Moniteau County that was damaged early Sunday morning.

OK - back to something good to talk about.  We have scheduled our first meeting of the off season.  It will be held on Saturday - October 4th, at Brian Monckton's in Fayette.  This is near where is was last year, but just a little farther down the road - and with more room.  Wade is going to make stew and cornbread.  Bring a side dish and your own drinks.  We will have Happy Hour at 5 pm, and then eat at 6 pm and then the meeting will be at 7 pm.  I hope everyone can make it.

Some of the things we are going to be working on for the meeting include - rules changes if needed and rules change meeting, committees for next pulling season, schedule of pulls, points awards, banquet location and date, officers and board members for next year.  If you have any other topics to bring up at the meeting, please let me know and I'll get them on the agenda.

We have set the RULES MEETING for JANUARY 10th, 2009 in Centertown at Jake Shenewerk's shop.  You will remember this place - it's where Rod Rackers and John Doyle hosted one of the meetings last winter.  Its large enough and very comfortable for the cold winter weather.  We will have directions posted on the Web later.  We will begin gathering at 3:00pm, and then start the meeting at 4:00pm.  Rod will be making Chilli, and we will break for supper at 6:00pm, and then resume the meeting at 7:00pm.  Please pass the word on this meeting.

Very Important!  At the October meeting, I will be assigning one person for each division to head up the rules changes for that division.  After we have those folks established - if you have any concerns for your division as far as rules changes go - get in touch with them.  If they see that there is allot of discussion, then there may be a need for just those folks in a particular division to get together in a separate meeting and come up with a "proposal" of rules changes for the January Meeting.  This should prevent us from having too much discussion at the main Rules Meeting in January.

The November meeting will be held on November 8th at John Dye's shop in Higginsville.  Happy Hour at 5:00, meeting at 6:00pm, and meeting at 7:00pm.

Sorry for all the Jumping around.  See you at Eldon!

9/3:

Mother nature dealt us another nasty hand last Thursday.  We were all set to have a decent turnout in Vienna at the Maries County Fair and we were able to get about 1/2 the pull in.  Things started out pretty good, but then as the 6500 div 2 was winding down to the last two tractors - the skies opened up and the lightning show was on!  I don't know how much it rained, but it rained alot in the following hour before it even thought about slowing down.  As far as I know - nobody got hurt loading up in the pouring rain.

As far as anybody getting stuck - only JP to my knowledge.  Thanks to Mike and Andrew for sticking around to make sure he got pulled out.  It was a soggy ride home, but an adventure at that.  Thanks to all the members who made the trip down there.

Its time for the Back to the Farm Reunion (Featuring Moline, Oliver, and Cockshutt) - along with our 2008 Back to the Farm Showdown Pull.  Things will run alot like they did last year.  We will start in the middle of the weight classes with Ben's Sled, and the lighter classes on the White Mule Sled.  So - make sure you are there on time in order to not get passed up.  It sounds like it's going to be a fairly large pull again.  I hope everyone can make it.

Don't forget, Friday night at about 6:00pm, MATPA members with be gathering at the southwest corner of the pulling track to have a fish fry and carry-in dinner.  Moncktons are bringing the fish and other food, but please bring a covered dish, and your own beverage of choice.  Around 8pm, we will try to have and informal meeting in case anybody has anything they want to bring up.  I will be asking for members to host the monthly winter meetings, so begin checking your calendars.

I need a couple of volunteers to help with traffic and parking trailers and such at the tractor pull on Saturday.  If you know of someone who might be able to help, let me know.
