11/8: Hello Everyone!

Looks like the weather has made a turn towards winter.  The nights are getting colder, and the days are getting shorter.  Time to pull the tractors inside and begin the winter machine shop grind!!!

We had our first winter meeting of the off season at Moncktons this past Saturday night.  We had a great crowd with "Standing Room Only".  We had some new members attend.  Welcome!!  The food was great and there was plenty of it.  Andrew called the meeting to order and we discussed some issues pertaining to insurance for our club.  For those of you who were unable to attend, let me enlighten you.

We have up to $25,000.00 of insurance on our club and its members.  We also have a 5 million dollar "liability" policy.  What does that mean - if one of our member causes damages to another member - then we have coverage un to $25,000.00.  If one of our members causes damage to another "non - member", then that falls under the 5 million dollar liability insurance.  Here lies the main issue and discussion at the meeting.  If a non member comes and pulls at one of our pulls, we have no insurance on anything they do.  Say a non member shows up, pulls, and then runs over a leg of another person - MATPA has no insurance to cover this situation.  The suggestion is to require every puller at our pulls to be a current MATPA member.  Another suggestion is to have a "one day" membership for $10.00. for those who may only come pull a couple of times.  Our membership dues are $25.00.  So after 3 times, they might as we become a member full time, and save money.  There was quite a bit of discussion on how to make sure who was a member, and who isn't at the pulls - with ease.  Some thought we should have a membership card - required to be shown at sign up.  Others thought we should have a membership number and stickers on the tractor like NATPA.  A special thanks for Steve VanDrimmlen on checking into our insurance and our coverage's.  If you have any more questions - please contact him.

What we ended up with - is tabling it until next month - and everyone be thinking about this and how to handle it.  Andrew also asked if anyone would be interested in running for officers and board members.  We will have elections next month at the December Meeting.  If you are interested in running for office, please contact Andrew or a current board member.

The next monthly meeting will be held at John Dye's shop in Higginsville, MO.  It will be on Saturday, December 8th.  I know Higginsville may be a long trip for some, but remember - the group from Higginsville drove to most or all of our pulls last year.  Lets do them a favor - and let them stay around home for at least one of the meeting.  Trust me, go to the meeting and hang out - you will have a good time.  It may be best for some of us to get together and car-pool up to Higginsville.  If some of you want to stay - I know where there is a good Hotel - "If they will let us stay again?"

If anyone else is interested in hosting a meeting - let Andrew or a Board member know.  I'm going to host the April Meeting - and the January Meeting will be the Banquet on January 19th in Ashland.  So we still need someone to have a February and March meeting.

I hope most of you were able to take a look at the latest "Hook Magazine".  They came to the Back to the Farm Showdown pull in Boonville, and wrote a very nice article for the November issue.  Daryl Dunlap made the front cover on his Massey - and several others had their picture in the article.

See ya at Higginsville - December 8th.
