June and July Archives
7/19: Hello Folks. All is well here in the hot and humid Missouri weather. Hope everyone else is doing well! Next week brings back some more pulling for MATPA as we will have had a couple of weekends off. Our next points pull will be at the Boone County Fair on July 26th.
Some of us have been traveling to local fair/festival pulls in the area - and making a good showing for MATPA at that. Steve Timm, JP Dunn, Rod Rackers, and John Doyle traveld to a pull in Warrensburg last Friday and came home with several first.
Mark Meisenheimer, myself, Kirtley Lewis, and a few others ventured to Smithton for a local pull. You will have to ask Kirtley how his night went! The only hint I'm going to give you is - there was a pulloff. And if you are going to pull in a pull off, you need to make sure you have enough gas in your pony motor on you John Deere R to start it after you run it out of Diesel!!!HAHAHA.
Thanks to those of you who attended the Prairie Home Fair pull on the 11th of July. We had a great turnout, and everyone was ready to go - so we made it home before midnight this year.
We still have eight more pulls ahead of us, and many things can change in that amount of time, so don't let your guard down! Make as many of the pulls as you can.
See everyone in Columbia.
7/7: Hello Everyone! Maybe the rain has moved out for a while and we can get in some good pulling. Several of our members traveled to Mendon, IL on this past Saturday and made a pretty good showing at the first National Pull of the 07-08 season. Below are the results:
Mark Meisenheimer - 5500 II - 3rd, 6000 II - 2nd, 6500 II - 2nd
Darrell Kusgen - 5500 III - 3rd, 6000 III - 8th, 6500 III - 2nd
Steve Timm - 5500 III - 5th, 6000 III - 5th, 6500 III - 3rd
Darrell Monckton - 6000 III - 3rd, 6500 III - 1st, 7500 III - 1st
Congratulations to all that pulled. You made a great showing for MATPA!!
If you are interested, Rod Rackers has copies of the NATPA Championship Pull in Columbia this past Spring.
See you all the the Pilot Grove FFA Pull at the Cooper County Fairgrounds
6/27: We had a beautiful day of pulling at Sturgeon. Thanks to all that worked in helping put on the pull - from the scales to the flagman, and "hookers" and "unhookers". I didn't get there until later on, so I didn't get to do much but eat a burger and weight up to pull. Things got shook up a little bit in the points this week, we had some new winners in a few classes! Its been over a year since I won a class, and I even snuck in there.
We have a couple of weeks off before we start up at the Pilot Grove Pull. (Cooper County Fairgrounds) But be ready, because the pulls "REALLY" get going then!!! July starts all the local fair pulls too! Everyone is welcome to come and pull at the Prairie Home Fair pull on July 11. (Wednesday night). This isn't a sanctioned pull, but many of you have pulled there before. Its a good show!! Sorry, but they won't have a class for the DIV V, or VII tractors.
Good luck to our MATPA members that are traveling to Mendon, Illinois this weekend. That is the first points pull for the NATPA. Go out and make a good showing for the MATPA!!!! If you are one of those attending, please make sure someone takes flyers for the Showdown pull in September.
6/18: Well, we finally didn't have to put up with the rain this past weekend, but we could have used a little "dryer" conditions. The humidity was extremely high. Every time I took a drink, I think it came right back out in seat!
Even though the heat and humidity were a little rough, we still had a good pull. Thanks goes Hallsvilee, Paul Scheetz, and all who helped put it on. We were done fairly early, and I think everyone was able to get home at a decent time. Except for those of us who keep going for the 2 hour "wind down" at the Bobber! Man - I've got to quit doing that!
We had quite a few new faces at the pull this weekend. We hope to see you folks again next week at Sturgeon.
I'm going to open up a small can of worms here - and this is not intended to cause havoc on anyone at this time. If some of you have been watching the news this past couple of days - you may have heard about the people who were killed when a runaway drag car go out of control, and veered into the crowd. We are in a similar sport - and we need to make sure our spectators are out of harms way. It would only take one accident for our insurance to go thru the roof, and we would not be able to have the pulls and good times we enjoy soo much. So - everyone needs to keep in mind - make sure everyone is staying back off the track, and behind barriers. Another thing I think our club needs to think about is the "curved exhaust pipes". The look good, sound good, and everyone likes them. I had one for years! But think about this - what happens when a spark plug end, pieces of exhaust valve, or a piece of a piston comes out of the stack?? Where is it going to go - if your curved stack is pointed to the crowd?? The NATPA has outlawed all curved pipes because of an accident in which a spectator was struck by debris coming out of the exhaust. I think this is an issue we need to be discussing amongst ourselves over the summer, and address it this winter. It is my opinion that we need to have straight pipes (either up or down). That is just my opinion, and only my opinion. That and 5 cents might be able to buy you a cup of coffee!
